The Steps to Aligning Ourselves with God
God wants our lives built on His truth (John 8;32), not our self-designed truth. He wants us to take captive our thoughts and examine them in the truth of His Word and not reinforce our own ideas and beliefs. But this is how people are going through life today, Christians included.
Many are ignorant that our lives have been misaligned. We are quick to blame forces outside ourselves—people and circumstances—for what isn’t working in our lives. When it is our fault that our life, body, mind, and heart slipped away from alignment with God’s best intentions for us.
So how can we realign ourselves with God’s truth? Let’s look to God and His Word for the answers.
Allow the Holy Spirit to Lead You
God offers each one of us the privilege of being led by the Holy Spirit. As his rightful children, we can expect to be led to God’s will. John 14:26 says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”
When He lays His hands upon you, it means God is inviting you to cooperate with a mantle adjustment. Tapping into our calling will be much easier when we make a wise decision as influenced by the Holy Spirit. This wisdom will allow you to make decisions today, hinging on what tomorrow awaits. But remember, John also warned us not to believe every spirit; instead, we test them to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world (1 John 4:1).
Break Free from Limiting Beliefs
What does it mean to be in alignment with God? It is when our hearts are right with God, where our spirits, souls, and bodies band together in peace and harmony. As we are properly aligned with God, our lives will go as God planned. However, this will be impossible if we don’t let go of distractions that limit our beliefs.
In the Colossians Verse by Verse by Dr. Jack Hetzel expresses how ideas and concepts have a powerful hold on the thoughts and beliefs of Christian today. These personal contrivances have led many astray from the divine alignment. You see, Dr. Hetzel claims that once an idea is wrong, then concepts become wrong, and as a consequence, our understanding becomes inaccurate and incomplete. Now, if believing in fallacies continues, we will never achieve the fulfillment God promises. We can only understand properly if our concepts are in alignment with God’s dynamic truth.
Trust God’s Judgment
God knows what’s best for everyone, even when His plans seem confusing. This is one of the reasons why it’s so important to trust God’s judgment. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways, submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6). As we journey through life, we’ll always come across crossroads: one leads to God’s plan for you, and the other may mess with our destination. With stakes high, it’s especially important to listen to God’s judgment.
Complete trust in God needs to be a stepping stone to your faith journey. God has a plan for each one of us before we are even born, and His plans will remain greater and more beautiful than those of our own. The only thing He asks of us is to follow His plan by believing that everything is in His control and that His dominion will guide us exactly where He wants us to go.
Worship for Thoughts to Change
When seeking the will of God in a matter, sometimes we confuse our selfish desires as God’s will for the situation. It’s important to be totally honest with ourselves concerning our natural bents. Do they lean toward wanting what God wants no matter what the cost, or do they tend toward selfishness? This is a hard battle to win which we often lose. To align with God’s will, take a moment of intentional prayer. Worship is a way of offering ourselves to our Creator as a living sacrifice, welcoming the Holy Spirit in to change us and our perspective. With worship, you can take your thoughts captive and focus on aligning with Christ as we never have before.
